About
The Brazilian Butt Lift is a revolutionary body sculpting procedure that allows patients to remove unwanted fat from their body and then reutilize that fat in order to augment the buttocks. The three-step procedure first removes unwanted fat deposits from areas of their choice – such as the abdomen or the flanks. The fat is then purified and re-injected onto the buttocks for augmentation and lift. Also known as fat grafting, the transferred fat gives the patient incredible results that both look and feel realistic. By using the body’s own healthy fat cells, there is no chance that the body will reject the material or have an allergic reaction. There is also no risk of synthetic implant complications or malfunctions, such as rupture. Furthermore, the procedure is extremely safe and has a proven track record of satisfactory results: buttock augmentation with fat grafting has a 97.1% satisfaction rate, and less than 1% of patients experience serious complications.(1) The procedure can be repeated as desired and some patients choose to return for additional fat grafting procedures.(2)
Dr. David Abramson creates a custom surgical plan for each patient to sculpt the body into their desired form and enhance their proportions. Liposuction is commonly performed on the abdomen and flanks in a Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, as this will offer the most dramatic results in terms of proportion between the waist and the buttocks. However, patients have the option of undergoing liposuction nearly anywhere on their body where there is excess fat!
Before and After Photos
Benefits
The Brazilian Butt Lift sculpts and augments the shape and curvature of the buttocks using the body’s own stores of natural fat to achieve a patient’s desired physique. Furthermore, it eliminates fat from other areas of the body, further creating an ideal look and shape to your figure.
Candidates
The Brazilian Butt Lift is ideal for patients who are interested in augmenting their buttocks without the use of synthetic material. In order to harvest enough fat for the procedure, Dr. Abramson may need to perform liposuction on two, if not more, parts of the body. This means that slimmer patients may not be good candidates for the procedure and may need to consider synthetic implants instead. On the other hand, patients should not be obese and should be in good health, possessing the ability to heal following the surgical procedure. Patients with a body fat percentage between 20-30% or a body mass index (BMI) between 20-30 are ideal.(3) They should also be nonsmokers or willing to quit for at least three weeks prior to and after the surgery.
All candidates should have a thorough understanding of the procedure and realistic expectations of what can and cannot be achieved from a Brazilian Butt Lift. We encourage patients to look through our Before and After gallery in order to get a good sense of the results they can expect.
In order to determine one’s eligibility for a Brazilian Butt Lift, please request a consultation with Dr. Abramson at one of his three locations in Englewood, Franklin Lakes, and New York City.
Personal Consultation
We offer consultations at our three convenient locations in Bergen County, NJ, and Manhattan. During the consultation, Dr. Abramson will meet personally with the patient to discuss their concerns and why they are interested in the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. The first goal of the consultation is to determine whether or not the patient would be a good candidate for the procedure. Dr. Abramson will do this by getting a complete and accurate understanding of the patient’s medical history and performing a physical exam. Depending on the extent of the patient’s aesthetic goals, he may recommend alternative or additional procedures that will give them optimal results.
Preparation
Prior to undergoing the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, patients will need to consult with Dr. Abramson to decide on the best donor locations. Donor locations are the parts of the body the patient chooses to have fat removed from, for later use in sculpting the buttocks. Dr. Abramson most frequently performs liposuction on the abdomen and flanks for the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure. However, patients can remove fat from other parts of their body as well. Some other common donor locations include the arms, back, inner and outer thighs, and the knees.
In all cases, Dr. Abramson will make a very small incision in discreet locations on the donor site where he will suction the fat from that area using a special cannula. He typically makes these incisions in the natural creases of the body or somewhere that is most often covered by clothing, so any scarring can be easily hidden. In any case, the scarring will slowly fade and, in most cases, eventually disappear.
Procedure
The Brazilian Butt Lift is performed as an outpatient procedure, usually under general anesthesia. Dr. David Abramson’s technique ensures that the fat will be evenly placed to add consistent volume and symmetry to the buttocks and ensure long lasting results.
First, the fat is extracted using a lipotransfer technique. In these areas, he will make small incisions where he can insert a cannula, which is a small thin tube. Negative pressure in the tube allows the fat cells to be easily suctioned out of the body. The liposuction procedure will strategically contour to body to enhance the results of the augmentation.
In the second step, the fat is cleaned and purified. Dr. Abramson uses a special centrifugation technique to help ensure that only the most viable fat is used in augmentation. Through this process, healthy fat cells along with adipose derived stem cells are isolated for transfer, for optimal graft survival and a speedy recovery. It is important to note that since not all of the fat will be viable for reintroduction into the body, Dr. Abramson will have to harvest surplus fat.
Finally, Dr. Abramson will transfer the fat into the buttocks using small injections at varying depths. This approach assures that the new fat can properly integrate with the existing fat and a better rate of survival in the new location. The slight amounts of fat that do not survive the transfer will be eliminated from the body through natural processes.
Recovery
During recovery, it is imperative that the patient follows all of the post-operative instructions to ensure that the maximum amount of fat survives in the buttocks. During the consultation, patients will be provided with more detailed recovery instructions.
For at least two to three weeks, patients should not sit directly on their buttocks, since the fat graft may not survive if too much pressure is applied to the area. Instead, patients should try and recline on their sides or stomachs as much as possible. Patients will be outfitted with a compression garment to aid in healing and help further contour the body into the desired shape. They should wear these garments at all times, with the exception of when they are in the shower. Surgeons typically recommend the use of these garments for four to eight weeks.(4) Dr. Abramson will give you personalized instructions for your recovery based on the details of your treatment plan. They should also make sure to get plenty of rest and go for frequent brief low-impact walks. Please inquire about an inflatable cushion for sitting. Patients will return for a follow-up appointment approximately one week after their surgery. Patients can expect to be fully healed after the swelling dies down in about six months.
Results
Patients can expect to retain 60-80% of the fat transferred to their buttocks. While not entirely permanent due to the changes that take place in the body’s fat cells, the effects of the Brazilian Butt Lift are “semi-permanent,” and will last for several years.
Corresponding & Complementary Procedures
The Brazilian Butt Lift can be easily combined with a variety of procedures to further enhance the contouring effects of a Brazilian Butt Lift. Some of the most common procedures that patients choose to also undergo include an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, as well as a fat transfer for breast augmentation. Both of these procedures will increase the hourglass aesthetic of the patient.
Abdominoplasty
Although liposuction around the abdomen can help contour and slim the stomach, it will not help with excess skin that is present in the area. Patients may not have natural elasticity in their skin to create the ideal toned contour, especially if they have lost a significant amount of weight or were previously pregnant. In order to remove excess skin and tighten ab muscles for a more contoured abdomen, a tummy tuck might be necessary.
Breast Augmentation
Fat grafting can also be used to increase the size of the breasts in a similar process as the Brazilian Butt Lift. Unwanted fat is collected from other parts of the body using liposuction and then used to augment the breasts. This natural breast augmentation procedure can be used to increase the size of the breasts by about one cup size.
Cost
After Dr. Abramson has completed his evaluation and determined the best techniques for the patient’s case, then he will be able to provide them with an accurate cost estimate. The price will vary depending on the specifics of the patient’s case, including factors such as the areas treated with liposuction, post-operative garments, and anesthesia. Our office manager is more than happy to speak with patients about financing options.
