Do I Need Rhinoplasty Surgery?
Many of our patients approach Dr. Abramson for rhinoplasty simply because they are consistently unhappy with the look and shape of their nose. The most common complaints we receive are that patients’ noses are:
- Too large
- Too oddly shaped, lumpy, or bumpy
- Bulbous
- Asymmetrical
- Damaged from accidents or birth defects
- Causing difficulty in breathing
Each one of these issues can be expertly corrected with rhinoplasty surgery in New York, in the hands of Dr. Abramson. We can enhance the nose’s appearance for cosmetic beautification or we can make alterations for medical reasons, such as improving breathing – or we can do a combination of the two.
Schedule your initial consultation to discover what you can achieve with rhinoplasty in New York. During this one-on-one meeting, Dr. Abramson will develop a personalized plan for you and will also consider your other facial features to restore the balance and harmony of your face. You will explain precisely what you wish to correct and how you would like it to look afterward, and can even bring in pictures of other people to show what you hope to achieve.
What is Involved in a Rhinoplasty?
For your comfort, the nasal surgery will be performed under anesthesia at our New York office. This procedure may take a few hours to complete, and you must also arrange a ride to and from our office due to the risks of driving post-anesthesia.
Your rhinoplasty procedure will follow the surgical strategy outlined in your initial consultation. This may differ depending on whether you opt for a closed or an open rhinoplasty.
Generally, the surgery will involve Dr. Abramson making incisions in and around your nose. Through these incisions, which we will do our best to keep as carefully concealed as possible, the nasal bone and cartilage will be sculpted and enhanced to meet your needs. For medical rhinoplasty, also known as a septoplasty, the nasal septum will be reshaped and straightened to correct your breathing.
The Recovery Phase
During your initial consultation, we will provide personalized instructions to help you achieve an optimal recovery.
After your procedure, you will be given a short course of antibiotics and pain medication to ease any (mild) discomfort you may have. Though individual patient experiences differ, you can typically expect a recovery period of roughly two weeks from your surgery. We generally recommend that during this time, you rest as much as possible and avoid the following:
- Blowing your nose
- Faial cosmetics
- Sun exposure
- Strenuous activity
- Working out or going to the gym
- Contact sports
- Smoking and alcohol
After your recovery period, most of the swelling should have subsided and you can return to work and your normal daily activities with your brand new, aesthetically appealing nose!
