After Weight Loss Tummy Tuck
Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in New Jersey, Bergen County and Englewood, NJ
An after-weight-loss tummy tuck is a body contouring procedure that removes excess abdominal skin to help you achieve a smoother, more athletic midsection. Weight fluctuations can stretch your skin and it does not always bounce back on its own. Excess droopy skin after weight loss is common and some patients do not anticipate the amount of excess skin they will experience. With a tummy tuck, we can help you permanently remove the excess tissue so you can achieve a smoother, more athletic midsection.
Dr. David Abramson is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has transformed thousands of patients’ lives with customizable procedures. A tummy tuck is not just cosmetic, droopy skin can affect your mobility and quality of life. After removing it, you can feel more comfortable performing daily activities and more confident about your appearance.

About After Weight Loss Tummy Tuck
Excess skin after weight loss, colloquially known as the Ozempic body, can affect your body proportions and your self-esteem. In 2023, specialists performed more than 170,100 tummy tuck procedures (1) to help patients achieve their body goals. It can be difficult to enjoy your weight loss achievement when excess, droopy skin makes it difficult to fit into your clothing. It can also result in uncomfortable rashes that disrupt your daily routine and quality of life. An after-weight loss tummy tuck is specifically designed to remove a significant amount of excess skin and restore your proportions after weight changes.
Tummy Tuck and Liposuction
As you age, stubborn fat can collect around the midsection which can be difficult to eliminate with diet and exercise. If you have been struggling to reduce it, we can perform liposuction to remove it with gentle suction that preserves the surrounding tissue. We use a thin cannula to prevent scarring and help you achieve a natural look. We also make the incision along the natural folds of the skin so that it is hardly noticeable and easy to conceal. We will cleanse the treatment area with tumescent fluid that causes the fat cells to swell for easier removal. Since we can permanently remove the fat (adipose) cells with liposuction, you can enjoy long-lasting results as long as you maintain a stable weight and take good care of your body.

Benefits
The benefits of a tummy tuck include:
- Smoother, more athletic figure: You can enjoy a more athletic look, and combining the procedure with liposuction can also highlight your muscle definition
- Balanced proportions: You can enjoy a curvier, more proportional figure without pockets of excess skin affecting your proportions
- Lasting results: If you take good care of your body and remain a stable weight, you can maintain results for many years
- Improved quality of life: You can improve your mobility which can make it easier to participate in daily activities including exercise (2)
- Abdominal muscle repair: If your muscles were also stretched, we can tighten them during the procedure to help you increase your strength (3)
- A natural look: With discreet incisions, we can tighten your skin and you can easily conceal the incisions beneath your clothing
- Fewer rashes: Removing pockets of excess droopy skin can prevent rashes that affect your well-being and are difficult to manage
Candidates
Suitable candidates for a tummy tuck have excess, droopy skin on the abdomen that they would like to remove for a smoother, more athletic appearance. Candidates will need to:
- Take good care of their bodies
- Maintain a stable weight
- Have realistic expectations about what they can achieve
If you are a nonsmoker, or you are willing to quit, and you are in good overall health, you are likely a good candidate for the procedure. We can discuss any questions you have during your consultation as well as any underlying conditions that could affect your treatment plan.
Personal Consultation
During your consultation, we will perform a physical exam of your skin to determine the best treatment plan for your needs. Depending on the severity of your skin, we can make a smaller incision to tighten the excess tissue. Please come prepared to discuss your medical history, current medications, and your body goals. If you have photographs of the look you would like to achieve, please bring them with you to help us understand your body goals as well. If you have additional body goals that you would like to achieve, we can discuss them during your appointment. Many patients combine the procedure with liposuction to help them achieve a slimmer figure.

Preparation
To prepare for an after-weight-loss tummy tuck, you will need to:
- Stop taking medications and supplements that thin your blood
- Avoid nicotine and smoking for approximately 6 weeks before and after the procedure
- Arrange for someone you trust to drive you home afterward
- Take about two weeks off work
Many patients also prepare their homes for a more comfortable recovery. Running errands and creating a comfortable, peaceful place to recover in advance can help you focus on healing.
Procedure
During the procedure, we will cleanse your skin and your anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia. Dr. Abramson will mark your skin for the procedure and make discreet incisions to remove the excess tissue. The length of the incision will depend on the amount of excess skin you would like to remove. After making the incision, Dr. Abramson can also tighten your abdominal muscles. If you receive liposuction as well, he will sculpt the pockets of excess fat before closing the area with sutures.
Recovery
Your recovery will depend on the amount of excess skin we remove and whether or not you receive liposuction. Recovery from a tummy tuck can take 1-2 weeks, and if you receive liposuction you will also need to wear a compression garment to help your body heal correctly. You will also need to follow up with the office to allow Dr. Abramson to monitor your progress. After approximately 2 weeks, you can return to work depending on the physical demands of your job. Most patients can return to more intense exercise after 4 weeks, and your surgeon will provide personalized instructions for your recovery to help your body heal.
Results
After a tummy tuck, you can enjoy smoother skin and lasting results because we permanently remove the excess tissue. If you maintain a stable weight to avoid stretching your skin further, you can enjoy a more slender figure for many years. It is, however, important that you continue to exercise regularly and support your figure with healthy meals.
Additional Body Contouring Treatments
Facelift for “Ozempic Face”
After weight loss it is also common to experience a significant amount of droopy skin on your face, colloquially known as Ozempic face. With a facelift, we can remove the skin with minimal incisions that create a natural appearance. During the procedure, we can make a thin incision behind your ears and along your hairline to tighten the skin. We can also adjust the layer of connective tissue beneath your cheekbones called the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). The surgical technique rejuvenates your complexion and repositioning it can help you achieve a more natural appearance as well as a smoother transition between the face and neck.
Thigh Lift
A thigh lift removes excess skin from the thighs to help you achieve a smoother, slimmer appearance. Weight fluctuations can result in droopy pockets of skin that affect the way your pants fit and can chafe uncomfortably against your clothing. With a thigh lift, we can make an incision along the inner thighs to tighten the skin for a natural appearance. The incisions you receive will depend on the type of thigh lift you need and the condition of your skin. Afterward, you can enjoy smoother, leaner legs and you can maintain your results for several years if you exercise regularly and maintain a stable weight.
Breast Lift
Droopy skin on the breasts, colloquially known as Ozempic breast is common after weight changes because excess fat can stretch your skin. This can not only affect your self-esteem but also your body proportions. A breast lift is a procedure that removes excess, droopy skin from the breasts to help you achieve a smoother more youthful appearance. During the procedure, we can also lift the position of the breasts to help you achieve a curvier look. Dr. Abramson can make a discreet incision along the natural curves of the breasts to tighten your skin. Although you will have thin incisions, they will be easy to conceal with clothing.
Arm Lift
After weight loss, patients may find that they are left with bothersome skin that hangs from the arms. Colloquially known as “bat wings,” this skin can cause uncomfortable chafing and can make clothes appear less flattering. By removing excess arm skin with a discreet incision along the underside of the arm, Dr. Abramson can help you achieve arms that appear slimmer and more toned with an arm lift. Contouring the arms can also improve one’s overall proportions and broaden clothing options.
