Breast Augmentation

Consultations offered at our three convenient locations in New Jersey, Bergen County and Englewood, NJ

The choice to have breast augmentation is personal and should be made just for you. There are different types of breast augmentation and numerous reasons to get one. For example, you might consider this procedure to make your breasts symmetrical when one is noticeably larger.

Similarly, breasts can lose volume after a significant weight loss, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. With a breast reduction, we can create a more rounded shape and achieve natural symmetry. At other times, you might not be satisfied with the size of your breasts and wish to have an enlargement.

Whatever the reason, it is essential to remember that while surgery can improve breast symmetry and increase the fullness and projection of the tissue, breast augmentation in New York does not correct sagging or drooping. To fulfill this, you may consider a breast lift alongside an augmentation to achieve a fuller and lifted appearance. Types of Breast Augmentation

There are two broad categories of breast augmentation we offer in New York. The first uses autologous fat transfer, and the second uses breast implants.

During a fat transfer, Dr. Abramson uses liposuction to remove fat from one area of your body, typically your hips, thighs, or abdomen.

This fat is processed in our surgical suite and injected into the breast tissue to enhance size and shape. While using your own fat for enhancement ensures your body will not reject it, the drawback is that fat transfers cannot achieve the increase in size that an implant can. A fat transfer may typically enlarge breasts by one or two cup sizes.

The second option is breast implants. During your consultation, you and your plastic surgeon will collaborate to choose from several types of implants and shapes. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it is crucial to consider the decision carefully and feel confident in your choice.

Saline Implants

Saline implants are filled with sterile water, and if the shell leaks, the saline is naturally absorbed and expelled by your body. A structured saline implant is also filled with sterile salt water but contains an inner structure that makes it feel more natural.

Silicone Implants

Silicone breast implants are filled with a gel that feels more like natural breast tissue. If an implant develops a leak, the shell does not collapse, but women with silicone implants need to make regular visits to ensure that the shell is functioning correctly.

Form-Stable Implants

Form-stable implants are sometimes called gummy bear implants because they maintain shape even when the implant shell breaks. The consistency of the gel is thicker than traditional silicone, and the implants are firmer.

One disadvantage of gummy bear implants is that their shape is more projected at the bottom and tapered towards the top. While this gives a more natural look, a separate procedure is required if the implant rotates to correct it.

Rounded, Smooth, and Textured Implants

A rounded implant tends to make the breast appear fuller; smooth implants have the softest feeling and give more natural movement; and textured implants have a textured exterior, making it easier for the body to form scar tissue on the implant and less likely to move after placement.

How to Prepare for Breast Augmentation Surgery

There are several things you can do to prepare for breast augmentation in New York. The first is to get into a fitness routine to enhance posture and upper body strength to support you in the weeks following surgery. Most importantly, do not overdo exercise that could potentially cause injury to your shoulders, arms, or upper body.

In addition, smoking can significantly impair your ability to heal, so you should be nicotine- and smoke-free for at least four weeks before and after surgery. This includes any nicotine-based products such as patches, gum, or vapes.

You will also need to take adequate time off work for recovery. In the days following the surgery, you may need help with driving, shopping, childcare, and housework. Finally, ensure a responsible adult takes you home from the surgery and that someone can stay with you for the first 24 hours.

What Can I Expect During Recovery?

Recovery from New York breast augmentation varies depending on the specific surgery technique and the procedure that you received. Dr. Abramson can give you a reasonable estimate of how long recovery will take.

Generally, your breasts will be sore and swollen for the first couple of days. You will need to wear a supportive bra for at least the first six weeks to help heal and keep your implants in the correct position. Likewise, depending on your surgical procedure, your surgeon may prescribe pain medication, muscle relaxers, or sleep aids.

You may go home with surgical drains, which are small tubes placed under the skin to help fluid drain away from the surgical incisions. These are typically removed within the first one to two weeks after surgery.

In addition, you will need to avoid strenuous activity for two to 12 weeks, depending on how you feel and the procedure performed, including lifting more than five to ten pounds. Dr. Abramson will also give you post-operative instructions that must be followed carefully to reduce your risk of complications, such as infection.
