Beauty Is a Verb

About Breast Surgery

Dr. Abramson’s suite of Breast Augmentation Procedures are perfectly plotted to improve the proportions of your breasts along a number of matrices. Enhancing their size is just the beginning.

In a Breast Lift, Dr. Abramson will center his skills on the height of your breasts and the orientation of your nipples. There are multiple poles of ascension in a perfect pair of breasts.[1] There are intersecting axes that you would need a precise artist’s eye to discern. Dr. Abramson to the rescue! He’s the New York plastic surgeon with the acclaimed aesthetic approach.

Breast Augmentation Revision acknowledges this immutable fact of time. Even silicone implants have their season. New silicone breast implants evolve along with the technology. Meanwhile, your original breast implants may be showing their wear.

Dr. Abramson recommends investing in a breast augmentation revision if your implants are 10-15 years old, or greater. It is not uncommon for old or faulty breast implants to rupture. A ruptured silicone implant is urgent by not an emergency. Prioritize a meeting with Dr. Abramson if you are concerned at all about the longevity of your breast implants.

Before and After Photos

Reasons for Breast Augmentation Revision

  • Periodic implant refresh
  • Adjust the size of the breasts
  • Improvements in implant technology
  • Adjust the orientation of the breast
  • Implant malfunction

Will Implants Lift My Breasts?

Breast Augmentation employs implants that vary in size and shape to suit a variety of styles. Saline and silicone implants are designed to add shape and volume to the breasts. They make small or flat breasts look fuller and rounder. Implants cannot lift or reposition the breast tissue or skin, as in a breast lift.[2] In cases of significant skin laxity, in fact, implants may accentuate the sagging. Silicone implants also do not elevate the nipples on the breasts. Investigate augmentation to address issues of size. A breast lift, on the other hand, will change your breasts’ direction, not their dimension.

If you would like to perk up your breasts, Dr. Abramson recommends breast lift surgery.

What is Capsular Contracture?

A “capsule” is a pocket of scar tissue that forms around your silicone implant. Some revision procedures leave the capsule in place. Other revision surgeries intend to remove the capsule and the implant together.

Your body will naturally create a capsule around the implant prosthetics following your enhancement procedure. This is both healthy and helpful to the process, as it protects sensitive breast structures by creating a pocket of scar tissue to hold the implants in place.[3] Patients must follow post-surgical aftercare instructions with fidelity, however, because the supplements and chest massages are all intended to prevent capsular contracture.

Capsular contracture occurs when the capsule tissue becomes overdeveloped. This will cause the breasts to appear unnaturally spherical and may contribute to breast asymmetry.

Breast Lift

Sagging breasts are known as ptosis in the plastic surgery set. “Ptosis” is derived from the ancient Greek word meaning “to fall”. You can judge the severity of your ptosis by conducting your own informal “pencil test” at home. In mastopexy, Dr. Abramson tightens and excises excess skin to raise your breast orientation in relation to your frame. He also repositions your nipples upward in a more vivacious vector. However, since the tissue is removed in the procedure, your bra cup size may go down unless you undergo augmentation as well.

How Many Years Does a Breast Lift Last?

The benefits of a breast lift surgery can last for up to 15 years. Some patients even report that they’re happy with their results for much longer than that. The reality is that it all depends on certain factors that are unique to you. These factors include your skin, the support of your breasts by muscles and other connective tissues, your breast implant surgery method and changes to your body from pregnancy or weight loss.

The Pencil Test

See if you have sagging breasts by conducting your own ptosis pencil test at home. First, place a pencil in the inframammary fold beneath your breast. If the pencil does not fall to the floor, then your sagging is severe enough to have held it in place. Consider the benefits of a breast lift.

Do You Lose a Cup Size with a Breast Lift?

The results of a study into this very inquiry were recently published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The study produced some interesting and helpful results that women everywhere can use if they are pondering breast enhancement surgery.

The study surveyed 20 women who underwent a breast lift procedure. The women who participated clocked in with an average age of about 45.[4] All of the patients only had a breast lift, without augmentation or reduction. Five years after their surgeries, researchers asked about their bra cup size before versus after breast lift surgery. Weight changes and other relevant factors were taken into consideration. The women reported an average decrease of approximately one cup size, for instance going from a D to a C. All of the women were wearing the same brand of bra, so there were no variations based upon manufacturer sizing differences.

FAQ

What is the difference between breast augmentation and a breast lift?

This is essentially a size vs. volume question. If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your breasts because they’re drooping or have lost considerable volume from breastfeeding or aging, you might be a good candidate for a breast lift. If you’re interested in increasing the size of your bust or want to correct any asymmetrical issues, you may be a good candidate for a breast augmentation procedure. It is important to remember that even though we are defining these concepts in opposition to each other, they are not mutually exclusive concepts. You can combine various breast augmentation surgeries to achieve comprehensive cosmetic results.
