First, Botox is the most popular cosmetic procedure of all time. The idea of dramatically improving the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows, crow’s feet and adding a lift to a brow set are very appealing to those on their late 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and beyond. Botco is also a preventative method to reduce the risk of wrinkles in those areas. In short, Botulinum toxin releases a neuromodulator chemical to inhibit contractions that appear as wrinkles caused by movement on the face.
Still, it’s important to note that not all Botox, also known as, botulinum toxin, is the same. One report published in Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, one of the JAMA/Archives journals, noted that Botox varieties do not all produce the same results for crow’s feet.
The focus of the study results appearing in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery was based on a comparative analysis of the 2002 FDA approval of onabotulinumtoxin-A and the 2009 approval of abobotulinumtoxin-A. Both varieties are meant to serve crow’s feet. Researchers used a 5 point scale and a split face comparison to demonstrate changes between the two types and also documented patient ratings of satisfaction. The results were remarkable.
Abobotulinumtoxin- A had a far greater influence on crow’s feet when compared to onabotulinumtoxin-A, with two-thirds of participants indicating their preference for the side of the face that was treated with aobotulinumtoxin- A.
There are also different ways that Botox may be prepared. For example, you may receive a syringe for your forehead lines, but the concentration level of the Botox ingredients in this syringe may be different among plastic surgeons. Plastic surgeons select the strength and dosage they prefer for their patients. Also, the procedure is technique driven, meaning that the experience of the injector may play a role in the outcome of the procedure.
If you are interested in Botox, ask to see your plastic surgeon’s results through before and after patient photos. In this way, you’ll be able to identify the type of results you can expect to see as the rodcure is also technique driven.
