Plastic Surgery Myths Dispelled

Plastic Surgery myths that are dispelled can be an eye opening experience! Check out the 3 Top Myths!

Myth I: All Plastic Surgeons Have the Same Credentials

There are over 100 medical boards that have members who consider themselves plastic surgery professionals, but only one board is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties – the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Board certified plastic surgeons typically maintain hospital privileges to perform plastic surgery procedures which ensure that the plastic surgeon’s skills have been reviewed by peers; others who perform plastic surgery may not maintain hospital privileges.

Myth II: You Don’t Need to Plan for Plastic Surgery

You may wake up one morning and say it’s time for plastic surgery! Yet, preparation is needed for plastic surgery.  Plastic surgeons spend time in consultation to identify and inform you about a proposed treatment plan, alternatives and all the information you need to have reasonable expectations about plastic surgery.  Another reason why planning is important is because there may be medications you are required to stop taking in the weeks before surgery.  If you are a smoker, you’ll need to stop smoking weeks before surgery.  It’s best to allow yourself at least a month before the day of an invasive plastic surgery procedure.

Myth III: It’s Not Safe to Have More Than One Procedure Simultaneously

There are a number of procedures that may be performed safely, simultaneously for those who qualify. The Mommy Makeover, including: Tummy Tuck, Lipo and Breast Augmentation may be performed together for women who qualify.  A facial plastic surgery procedure may be performed at the same time as body contouring.  In fact, there have been improvements to anesthesia, making it quicker acting and longer lasting, which allows for multiple procedures to be performed more comfortably.

A consultation with a plastic surgeon will likely be revealing as you identify a unique treatment plan that your plastic surgeon will genuinely tailor for you.
